Yesterday, Jason and I attended the funeral of an amazing man. The church had standing room only! Wow, to leave that kind of Christian legacy--phenomenal! We all stood and sang his favorite hymn, Count Your Blessings; those words have new meaning to me! I can honestly say it was the first time I ever stood and sang with a congregation at a funeral, but it was befitting. The minister of music said it was the only song he ever requested to hear, over the years. They fit who he was as a Christian!
When upon life's billows
You are tempest tossed
When you are discouraged,
Thinking all is lost
Count your many blessings,
Name them one by one
And it will surprise you
What the Lord has done.
Chorus:
Count your blessings,
Name them one by one
Count your blessings,
See what God has done
Count your blessings,
Name them one by one
Count your many blessings,
See what God has done.
Are you ever burdened
With a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy
You are called to bear?
Count your many blessings,
Every doubt will fly
And you will be singing
When you look at others
With their lands and gold
Think that Christ has promised
You His wealth untold
Count your many blessings,
Money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven,
Nor your home on high.
So, amid the conflict,
Whether great or small
Do not be discouraged,
God is over all
Count your many blessings,
Angels will attend
Help and comfort give you
To your journey's end.
"Help and comfort give you to your journey's end." I am certain there were angels among him while he suffered his final weeks. We sat through a funeral and laughed at the repeats of his many jokes and tall tales; he was loved and will be missed by many, especially his sweetheart of 63 years, my husband's Aunt Pearl!
Uncle 'Dud' I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to know you better. Live Laugh Love!
